Citation from the London Gazette
|
The London Gazette gives this citation 25/8/16 :"Capt. Geoffrey Charles Ranulph Leacroft Som. L.I., Spec.Res. For conspicuous gallantry when leading a raid on the enemy's trenches. When the enemy exploded a mine he directed his parties for over two hours under heavy fire. It was mainly, owing to his coolness and personal example that his men succeeded in covering the working parties during the consolidation."
However the notification of the MC award [in Kings birthday honours award] was made 2/6/16 under his correct name so the assumption is there was an error made, not subsequently corrected, in the Gazette - By the time the citation was published, Captain Leacroft had already been killed in action
